Open Learning Centre International re-accredited

20th November 1998

At their meeting on Thursday, 19th November 1998, the Open & Distance Learning Quality Council agreed to re-accredit the Open Learning Centre International (OLCI).

OLCI offers distance & flexible learning in more than eighty countries world-wide. The organisation emphasises the flexibility of its approach, which permits clients to study whilst at sea, in the Himalayas and other places where more conventional educational programmes either are not possible or simply where individuals and employers prefer flexibility of time or place.

From its base in Carmarthen, it aims to offer the widest range of quality courses of any UK distance learning organisation, through having excellent relationships with the best suppliers available. Subjects offered range from programmes leading to the MBA, through electronics, commercial and other technical courses to GCSE and A-level subjects. Indeed, the variety of courses on offer, and the range of tutorial support options associated with them, distinguish the Centre from most other providers in this country.

"I received the news that we had been granted ODL QC re-accreditation while in a taxi crossing the Bosphorus in Istanbul" e-mails Brian Mee, the Director of OLCI, "and ten minutes later I was with a client who asked me who accredits us. I was able to give him the good news. I have no doubt that ODL QC accreditation is worthwhile; it gives us a standard at which to aim and measures us against those without it".
