Thinking once again about qualifications, I went to look at the site of the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority.
The site is heavily weighted towards the work that QCA does in establishing the school-age curriculum.
I did find a page describing how QCA is working with its counterparts in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland to develop a "coherent and transparent" national qualifications framework,
which can only be for the good.
A link from this page takes you to information about the National Childcare Strategy and a page which I think was showing qualifications necessary for various jobs, and their equivalents. Unfortunately the various sections of the table weren't labelled, so I can't be sure.
Under "Accreditation Criteria and Process", information is also available on aims of the new framework (including lifelong learning) and on how qualifications can be considered for admission to the framework.
