New ODL QC schemes
make quality available to more

22nd March 2002

The Open and Distance Learning Quality Council yesterday announced two new ways for providers to share best practice in open and distance learning.

Accredited Status will continue to be awarded to providers who have been through a simple but thorough assessment to prove they meet the Council's published standards. Accredited providers are recognised by learners as flexible, friendly, and above all secure.

The New Provider Scheme will allow newly established providers to work with the Council. They will benefit from the Council's expertise as they develop a quality provision. Once they have reached its standards in distance learning, they can be accredited, and use the Quality Mark to demonstrate their achievement.

Provisional Accreditation will be awarded when the Council has confidence in the underlying quality of a provision, and is working with a provider to achieve excellence across the whole range of issues covered by the ODL QC standards. When the provision meets ODL QC standards, full accreditation will be awarded.

All ODL QC providers benefit from the Council's strong links with bodies including learndirect, the British Council, and the DfES. They keep up to date with newsletters and email bulletins, and generate significant new business through the ODL QC helpline, publications and website.
