The Learning Institute was awarded Accredited Status at a meeting of the Open and Distance Learning Quality Council yesterday. The Institute’s courses range from garden design and interior design to copywriting and catering.
It demonstrated that course materials, administrative and tutorial methods, and publicity all meet the Council’s Standards. The accreditation report states:
"There is much that is good about the Learning Institute, and some that is excellent; not merely reaching ODL QC standards but comfortably exceeding them. It is clearly worthy of accreditation."
The ODL QC Quality Mark is the only sure promise of quality in distance learning. It can now be displayed by the Institute to show learners that the provision has been independently assessed. Such reassurance is crucial especially at a time when the respectability of other providers is publicly in question.
Kit Sadgrove, Chief Executive, said:
"An increasing proportion of our students now want evidence of accreditation. This is a sign of growing sophistication, and it’s one that we welcome, because it encourages learners to enrol on a better course."
He added: "Meeting world-class standards is particularly important for us now that we’re exporting growing numbers of courses to the USA, Canada and other countries."
