Organizations

UK spending on training has reached record levels, with £23.5 billion spent last year, according to figures from the DfEEe www.dfee.gov.uk

A “Meeting of Minds” took place between the OU Vice-Chancellor John Daniel and Dr Anne Wright the then chief executive of Ufi on the 2nd of April. The memorandum of understanding, in which former ODL QC Council member David Grugeon had a hand, marks the start of sharing of expertise and research and development. Ufi announce new Chief Executive

On the 5th of April Ufi (the body behind learndirect) announced Ann Limb as successor to Dr Anne Wright (CBE) as Chief Executive from 1 August.

Principal of Cambridge Regional College since 1996, Ann Limb saw the college receive national recognition from various bodies for its increased use of information and communications technology in learning and assessment. Holder of a diploma in management, she has been a member of the Ufi board since 1999.

Anne Wright will continue to be closely involved in the sector, as a non-Executive Director of Ufi and as an advisor to the DfEE on post-16 e-learning.


We live in exciting times-
Both the Learning and Skills Council and the Adult Learning Inspectorate officially came into existence in April. LSC (which will be responsible for funding and planning post-16 education) launched on the news that they will receive an extra £6bn of funding. More details from www.trainingzone.co.uk/item/42416

ALI will have responsibility for inspection of work-based learning for those aged 16-18, post-19 college learning, learndirect provision, adult & community learning, prison education and New Deal training. See www.ali.gov.uk .

Other upheavals include the disappearance of NACETT (National Advisory Council for Education and Training), and the launch of the new Connexions advisory service for young people.
