Publications online

As the web grows more pervasive, so more and more publications appear on the web.

Major reports become available, and can be scanned, read and downloaded at little or no cost. Two such reports, on online delivery, and on virtual universities, are reviewed elsewhere in this newsletter.

There are special sites which collect documents of interest to particular groups or provide sophisticated search facilities. Two of these, the British Education Index (BEI) hosted by Leeds University, and ERIC, a US equivalent sponsored by the US Department of Education, can both be accessed through Bath Information Data Services at www.bids.ac.uk

Journals

Articles on the web range from the academic to the anecdotal. Online journals proliferate, given the ease of publication, and the academic ethos of sharing ideas through publication.

EURODL, the European Journal of Open and Distance Learning, is a good example, published at kurs.nks.no/eurodl by NKS, a major Norwegian provider.

Others with occasional articles of interest include GAJAL, the Global Anthological Journal of Action Learning, at www.free-press.com/journals/gajal , JLSDE, the Journal of Library Services for Distance Education, at www.westga.edu/~library/jlsde/welcome.html , or Technology Horizons in Education, at www.thejournal.com. But there are lots more.
