The International Graphology Association (IGA) was formed to provide a specially tailored professional course in graphology.
Understanding of personality and its effect on behaviour is important in just about every area of life whether in the home, business, or leisure.
Yet the perceived lack of professionalism in the subject had contributed to a poor image for graphology.
The IGA course primarily addresses the assessment of personality through handwriting.
However, it also covers a wide range of matters related to personality including psychological bases as well as psychometric assessment.
(To widen further their knowledge of personality students have the opportunity to take the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator which is a psychometric tool based on the work of the psychologist Carl Jung).
The Association, in its original form, was first accredited by the ODLQC in 1990.
A major benefit of this is the credibility it helps to confer.
Equally important is the discipline it provides us in ensuring that we maintain high standards in our administration and service to students.
The recent addition in literature of the ODLQC guarantee also gives confidence to prospective students

What is graphology?
It is the analysis of handwriting to provide an assessment of the personality.
Abbé Michon, a French churchman, is generally credited with coining the word 'graphology'.
What support is there for it?
Studies show increasing evidence for its reliability (do you get consistent results each time); validity (are the inferences drawn from the assessment correct); and utility (is it cost-effective) provided you use a qualified analyst.
The author will be happy to discuss further these points about reliability, validity and utility.
What is it used for?
Graphology is useful wherever personality plays an important role.
In the corporate area it is useful as a tool in recruitment at senior levels, team-building and management development. (Graphology can also be used for other areas where personality is meaningful such as compatibility studies for marriage, young person assessment, etc.)
