Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) is part of the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES), which is in turn, part of the world famous University of Cambridge.
With such a pedigree it is no surprise that CIE is at the cutting edge of innovation in educational assessment and learning.
UCLES have been delivering pre-matriculation international examinations for over 140 years.
In 1998 CIE was set up as a new arm of UCLES, dedicated to offering assessment tailored to the needs of international centres.
It remains a charitable organisation, and with this status comes an investment in research, a 50 strong team looking at a variety of assessment issues with a commitment to providing quality education.
CIE provides its assessment services to a variety of institutions, from rural community schools in Africa, through to large Ministries, such as Singapore.
It is therefore no stranger to the challenges of offering education to customers with differing student demographics and the full spectrum of educational resources.
Over one million candidates in 150 countries take a Cambridge exam every year.
CIE's product portfolio is growing to take account of the demand for new skills.
Its traditional academic business is a strong foundation on which it has built new Career and Skills Awards in Business, Office Administration, ICT, Thinking Skills, Travel and Tourism and Health and Care, all assessed to the same Cambridge standards.
Aimed at training centres and the corporate sector these Awards respond to the needs of the new lifelong learning culture, offering qualifications to new employees entering the workforce through to practising managers.
