ODL QC sets the standards for open and distance learning in the UK e=Q is an initiative from ODL QC to help apply those standards to the many different approaches to learning support now available; to help develop and recognise excellence in all forms of online and e-learning. Acknowledging ExcellenceAny accredited provision sets out what is on offer; accreditation states that, in the view of the Council, that offer can be met. To help the learner, acknowledgements of accreditation will indicate the kind of support available: resources-only, without individual tutor support, for example; or a site offering access to tutor support but no materials. Marks will be tailored to particular types, and linked to the relevant page on ODL QC. ApplicationsAll applications should be made to ODL QC at the usual address.
Applications should be accompanied by a preliminary submission sufficient to indicate the nature of the provision, its provenance, its promise to learners and the means by which it will meet those promises. The application fee is £100 for UK-based providers, and £250 for non-UK-based providers. Applications will go to a small subgroup of Council for preliminary consideration and, if accepted, will be published on the applications page of the website. Once an application has been accepted it will, after discussion with the provider, go forward for assessment. The number and timing of assessments will depend upon the nature and development of the provision. All providers will require a minimum of two assessments; more may be needed if significant amounts of work are required prior to accreditation. Assessments are normally charged at £250 each. After application, a time frame for assessment and consideration will be agreed with the provider. If accreditation has not been achieved within two years, the application would normally lapse.
