Know yourself, understand people, build great relationships
Many problems arise in both personal and professional relationships because we do not always appreciate what makes people act in the way they do. One important factor is personality and when we understand that we have a key to healthier relationships which works to the benefit of all involved.
This course is intended to give you an insight into personality with this in mind.
If you are ready to accept the challenge of a demanding subject and have the self-discipline you could be on your way to seeing the advantage in both personal and professional terms from that increased knowledge.
-------
When we write there is, of course, movement and it is this movement and the way in which it is produced which provide an insight into personality.
The Movement (which is the process of writing) gives an indication of the basic tempo of the writer, the Form (which is the product of the writing) tells us about the image they project and the Arrangement (seen in the proportions in the writing) reflects how they adjust to the world and to others.
The full Diploma course provided by IGA is designed to make you a qualified graphologist able to produce an in-depth awareness of people from their writing. As a student you will have a well-qualified analyst as a personal tutor.
In addition to formal tuition, IGA provides guidance and support.
The course is in two parts.
- Part 1 provides a thorough grounding in the basic principles of graphology. You look at the movement within the total handwriting and the factors which form the basis of personality.
These include the emotions which are one of the greatest influences on the way we behave - how much and for how long we are affected.
Together with the ability to concentrate, to use imagination and the degree of self-discipline we have a basic picture of the person.
Fears can hold back a person from achieving and you will examine these and the coping mechanisms we employ.
The signature is not looked at in isolation but, as part of the total picture, it can tell us a great deal about the person.
The meaning of various traits as they appear in the writing adds further detail to that picture by their interaction with one another within the total handwriting.
- The Diploma element builds on your work in the previous part developing your understanding and takes you step by step through the processes of evaluation and professional reporting using a structured, proven system to help ensure that nothing of importance is omitted.
Reports for various purposes are included and the final examination is the production of a report based on a piece of writing of your choice.
In total there are 30 lessons, each with a related assignment on an ‘open book’ basis to test your understanding rather than just memory for facts and also help you progress.
With each completed assignment you receive a model answer and also a paper on related subjects.

Some of the elements covered in the course:
Movement, Form, Arrangement
These basic elements provide a foundation for understanding personality on which we can build to produce an in-depth picture.
Global traits
These illustrate the overall personality of the individual and are pervasive in writing; the slant, pressure, size, imagination and rhythm establish a pattern of personality.
Areas of writing
How practical is an individual, or is the abstract world of more interest?
Where is energy directed?
Emotions
These are very much at the core of personality.
The course studies emotional structure; how much and for how long are we affected by events?
Thinking
We all learn in different ways and this is revealed in handwriting.
Communication
How do people interact with others?
Are they happier alone or in a crowd?
Spacing
The spacing of margins, lines, words and individual strokes all contribute to an understanding of personality.
Self-image
How do people feel about their image?
Is it the appropriate one ?
Fears & Defences
In many ways these can be a key to personality. Fears are unconscious anxieties which can sap energy and hold people back from achieving.
Work attitudes
How will the individual fit into the team?
What is best for the person in the work field?
Signatures
These can reveal a great deal about personality when looked at as part of the total handwriting.
IGA is a professional body specialising in Graphology (handwriting analysis for personality assessment) and dedicated
to maintaining standards of members and acceptance of the subject.
On Successful Completion of the course members are allowed to practise professionally and enjoy the benefits of membership.
