The “Design Your Own Home” course has been exclusively developed in conjunction with
Homes & Gardens magazine and takes students on a step-by-step approach to
designing their own home.
From planning the room layout through to finishing touches, this course will show you how to create a workable scheme in
your own personal style.
The course work is based on your own home so that, as you progress through your studies, you add to the material to
build up your own portfolio of room schemes.
As well as including a stylish pen for note-taking, the course comes complete with a scrapbook to help you collate your
sourced materials.
Presented in an elegant designer’s portfolio, the course material is colourfully illustrated throughout and is
jammed-packed with information and inspiration to help you design your own home in a professional way.
“This course will help with every stage of planning and decorating your house.
It will give you all the practical information you’ll need to create a successful scheme, including how to use paints,
wallpapers and furnishings to create your chosen look.
The course will also help you to develop your own personal style and give you the confidence to keep refining your look
whether classic or contemporary or even a mix of both.”
Deborah Barker, Editor, Homes & Gardens
There is no time limit, although the average time taken to complete the course is about 12 months.
No prior experience is necessary - just commitment and enthusiasm.

"At KLC, we strongly believe that KLC is the leading school for interior design and garden design training – whether you are
studying here at our studios at Chelsea Harbour or taking an open learning course; whether you want to make a career change or study for your
own pleasure.
"A friendly and professional approach is fundamental to everything that we do to provide "excellence by design".
Furthermore, we are the only design school to be accredited by both the British Accreditation Council (BAC) and the Open
& Distance Learning Quality Council (ODLQC).
When you enrol on a KLC Open Learning Course, you become a part of the college.
This is why we refer to our courses as “Open Learning” rather that “Distance Learning” – students are not left studying at
home in isolation, but are automatically welcomed into the KLC Association bringing with it a unique system of support
services.
For more information on our Open Learning Diploma in Garden Design or any of our courses, our contact details are provided
