At their meeting on Thursday, 25th September 1997, the Open and Distance Learning Quality Council granted re-accreditation to the Distance Learning Department of the London Montessori Centre (LMC)
The Centre, which offers a range of full time, part time and correspondence courses, all of which can lead to the diploma in the Montessori method, was first accredited by the Council in 1984.
LMC was acquired in May 1996 by Asquith Court Limited. In her report the Chief Assessor to the Council, Dr Ann Ridler, praises the far-reaching changes recently introduced by the Centre which have greatly strengthened its distance learning provision.
Mrs J Cross, the centre's Managing Director, said: "We are delighted to achieve re-accreditation. This will give our present and future students throughout the UK and the world every confidence in the quality of the courses we offer and in the support we provide for our students"
Note to Editors - The London Montessori Centre
The London Montessori Centre has an international reputation as one of the leading training establishments for the method of education established by Dr Maria Montessori.
The central idea of the Montessori method is that it provides freedom for the child within a carefully planned and structured environment; that all children are intrinsically motivated to learn and that they absorb knowledge without effort when provided with the right kind of activities at the right time of their development. The method is best known when used for children from birth to six years of age, though it can be used with children up to the age of twelve years and beyond.
