Japanese Gardens

Creating a unique, authentic Japanese Garden within a western setting.

Gardens in Japan and China have always been thought of as an essential part of the tradition and culture of those two countries.    They are seen very much as an art form to be constructed with spiritual enthusiasm.    Contained within them are all the basic elements of nature, symbolised and represented to express certain deep ideas and thoughts.

This course covers the philosophy and spirituality of the Japanese Garden and progresses right through design, then building to maintenance.

Course contents:

  1. Philosophy of the Japanese Garden.
  2. Components of a Japanese Garden.
  3. Plants and Planting.
  4. From Design to Reality.
  5. 'Putting the Jigsaw Together'.
  6. Costing out your Garden.
  7. More Designs (especially for front/side gardens).
  8. Public Area Designs (also adaptable to private gardens).
  9. Aquatics (pools/streams/waterfalls/fish).
  10. Maintenance and Enjoyment.
